Description
Watercolor on ivory portrait miniature of Benjamin Colden by Abraham Parsell. Half-length portrait of a young man wearing a dark blue jacket with gold buttons, a white shirt with high collar, a white stock with a gold pin or watch fab, and a black cravat or neckerchief. The man has curly brown hair and blue eyes and is seated on a red chair with his hand visible. Facing front left against a background of white, grey, and pink. Oval portrait set in elaborate brass locket under convex glass, with loop at top. Back of locket includes an empty hair reserve.
Provenance
Part of a lot of Dickinson miniatures of the Moore Family purchased from Marika's in Boston in the 1960s. Originally purchased in Troy, NY. Exhibited at Danforth Museum Symposium in Framingham, MA in 1985 and at the Worcester Art Museum in Winter/Spring of 1991.
