Description
Glazed earthenware cream pitcher used as a toy or play teaware. White ceramic with blue transfer-printed decoration, high-bellied shape, curved handle and four feet. Identical scenes on either side, featuring four children seated by a large urn which holds a cluster of flowers and plants. There is a castle visible to the far right and a boat to the far left. The scene is surrounded by flowers, swags, and acanthus leaves. Molded floral motif on handle and blue geometric border on interior, scalloped edge.
Provenance
Belonged to Margaret Sargent Fisher, wife of Samuel H. Fisher, who grew up in New Haven in the 1870s-1880s. Later displayed in Babbitt home.
