Description
Depicts the corpse of Jesus in his mother’s arms. Copy of Pietà of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. The painting itself is in fine condition, appears faded in saturation. The frame to the painting is crumbling on the edges and has a few damage spots on the upper right-hand corner and lower left side. The back of the work has a sticker labeled “Architectural League of NY Annual Exhibition, Color sketch for Fresco copy of “Pieta d’Avignon” with Property of Mr. Austin Purves, Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia”
