Description
Rectangular, brass sign. "DR. COOPERNAIL" impressed into front of sign. Holes in all four corners, presumably so sign can be affixed to a surface with screws.
Comment
The "Dr. Coopernail" referred to on this is George Peter Coopernail who was born at Red Hook, N.Y. on March 15, 1876. He was educated in medicine at Albany Medical College, where he graduated M.D. in May, 1900. He served as intern at Albany Hospital, was appointed assistant physician to Long Island Home, and was appointed attending surgeon to the State Reformatory for Women. He was active in the medical corps during WWI. He entered general medicine as a surgeon and consulted widely. He also served as a medical examiner. He married Louise M. Brinton, and they had three children, including a daughter, Charlotte L. Brinton Coopernail, who married Sutherland Beckwith. After retiring, he moved to Litchfield. He died on Oct. 4, 1964.
