Description
Pressed glass medicine bottle, clear glass with flat front, beveled corners, and rounded back. Short neck with slight rim and threaded top; black plastic cap. Embossed at front-top is a symbol with the letter "i" and at bottom is "Knoxall." White ink on front, "MARLEY/PHARMACY" above symbol of mortar and pestle set in white circle, with text "QUALITY-SERVICE-DEPENDABILITY" around circle; text underneath "WM. MARLEY,/REG. PHARM./PHONE 210/COR. WEST & MEADOW STS./LITCHFIELD, CONN."
Provenance
Removed along with other items from Murphy's Pharmacy on West Street, Litchfield, after the business closed in 2019.
Comment
Murphy's Pharmacy began as the Marley Pharmacy, opened by William Marley after the left the business partnership of Crutch & Marley located farther up West Street. The pharmacy was purchased by Joseph Murphy sometime between 1948 and 1951.
