Description
Two souvenir badges made for passengers on the S.S. Chilcotin. Leather strips with angle-cut bottoms and triangular-cut tops. Applied decoration to unfinished (suede) side of leather, including Native American faces and ink lettering. A - Wood and plastic head of a Native American man wearing headband with a single feather. In ink underneath, "S.S./CHILCOTIN/ALASKA/CRUISE/MR./A. B. WEBSTER/UNION STEAMSHIPS/LTD./VANCOUVER/CANADA/1952." Safety pin on back. B - Plastic head of a Native American woman with applied fabric hair. In ink underneath, "S.S./CHILCOTIN/ALASKA/CRUISE/MRS./A. B. WEBSTER/UNION STEAMSHIPS/LTD./VANCOUVER/CANADA/1952." Safety pin on back.
Provenance
Kept in travel case containing souvenirs of Art Webster and his wife, who went on an Alaskan Cruise on the S.S. Chilcotin in 1952. The Chilcotin was operated by the Union Steamship Company between 1947 and 1958, primarily offering summer Alaskan cruises.
