Description
G.A.R. Union ribbon. Ivory silk with selvedge edges. Brown printing: an eagle with a banner suspended from its beak: "OUR UNION MUST AND SHALL BE PRESERVED;" from the eagle's talons is suspended a shield with the Stars and Stripes; behind the wings is a billowing American flag.
Comment
The quote on the ribbon paraphrases a statement delivered by President Andrew Jackson in 1830.
