Description
Natural colored linen handkerchief. Hemmed on each side. Stitched around outside edge of handkerchief in gold/brown thread, "mark my sister now the roses. Emulate thy damask cheek. How the bud its sweets discloses. Buds thy of nine bloom bespeak./ Lilies are by plain direction. Emblem of a double kind. Emblems of thy fair complexion. Emblem of thy fairer mind. But near (illegible - maybe end?)/ both flowers and beauty Blossom face and die away. Then pursue good sense and duty. Evergreens which never decay (?)/ Fairest flower all flowers excelling. Which in milton's page we see flowers of Eve's imbowered dwelling. Are my Dear Girl types of thee./ Jane E. Radcliff's. Presented her by her sister Belinda Ann May 1820."
