Round metal button with pin and catch on reverse. Paper front with white background and purple lettering, "E.R.A./NATIONAL/E.R.A./MARCH/JULY 9, 1978/A TRIBUTE TO ALICE PAUL." Top "E.R.A." is set in gold banner. Paper attached to button with plastic laminate.
Provenance
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was first introduced in 1923 by Alice Paul. It was reintroduced in 1971 and passed through Congress in 1972, but was never ratified by the required number of states before the 1979 deadline. Worn by donor at the 1978 March for the Equal Rights Amendment in Washington, D.C.
