Description
Money or bank bag produced for the First National Bank of Litchfield. Rectangular bag of blue leatherette material with black metal and nylon zipper at top edge. Printed on one side in white lettering, "THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK/of Litchfield/GOSHEN-LITCHFIELD-MARBLE DALE/ROXBURY - TORRINGTON FAIR - WASHINGTON DEPOT." Written in black ink on reverse, "MUSEUM SHOP." Manufacturer's label attached at right edge on inside.

Previously used by the Society. Added to the collection as a documentation of First National Bank.
Comment
First National began in 1814 as the Phoenix Bank, a Litchfield branch of the larger Hartford-based bank, with a Federal style building built on North Street in 1816. The branch was reorganized as the First National Bank of Litchfield in 1864, and merged with Union Savings Bank in 2010.
