Description
Small piece of red silk that is purported to be a piece of the flag carried into battle by the 2nd CT Heavy Artillery (originally organized as the 19th CT Volunteer Infantry) at Cold Harbor. Fabric remnant attached to a piece of paper with a small metal pin. On left side of paper is written in ink, "Piece of the Flag presented/ by Mrs. Noyes to the/ 19th Conn./ Torn off by a shell at/ Cold Harbor June 1 1864/ D.C. Kilbourn." On right side written in ink is, "Piece of lace curtain/ beneath which/ President Lincoln/ was assassinated in Ford's Theatre. Wash. D.C./ D.C. Kilbourn." Reverse of paper is printed, "Law Office/ OF/ DWIGHT C. KILBOURN./ Litchfield, Conn.,________187."
