Description
Pressed glass medicine bottle, clear glass, squared shoulders with beveled corners. 1" neck with flat rim; mold lines visible. Embossed lettering on front, "WESSELLS & GATES/LITCHFIELD, CONN." with emblem of eagle standing on a shield. Embossed lettering on bottom, "W.T. & Co./H." Paper label on reverse, "gift of Ad. Lillis, 3/19/93 fd bk Lit Bk."
Provenance
Wessells & Gates was a pharmacy/druggist in Litchfield between 1888 and 1919. The pharmacy opened on the corner of South and West streets sometime after the fires in 1888. It was replaced by Crutch’s Pharmacy.
