Commemorative tray or ashtray depicting the Litchfield Law School building on the site of the Tapping Reeve House in Litchfield, Connecticut. Rectangular tin tray with black rim, decorated with motifs of gold swags and c-scrolls. Base of tray contains a color image of the Law School building set at the end of a garden with circular flower beds and paths paved with uneven rectangular stones. Trees and bushes surround the building and garden. Gold-colored reverse with black paper hanger at top and white label at bottom, with blue lettering, "LITCHFIELD, CONNECTICUT/THE FIRST LAW SCHOOL IN THE U.S./1784-1833/Founded in 1774 by Judge Tapping Reeve whose/home adjoins this building and colonial garden."
Comment
The photograph dates from before 1974, when the building was moved forward and reconfigured to better represent its original location. The garden, known as the Howe Garden, was redesigned and reinstalled.
