Description
Civil War era sword and scabbard. Scabbard is leather with flanged brass tip. Two brass bands at top - both with rings attached. Upper band has inscription that reads, "Presented to/ Fife Maj. Peter Tomlinson/ 27th Regt. C.V./ by his friend/ Charles A. Warren/ Watertown Oct. 20th 1862." Sword made of iron. Blade engraved "Tiffany & Co./ New York" near hilt. Blade has two grooves - one thin, one wide. Part way down is the great eagle of the U.S. On reverse side, letters "P.D.L." and "E" near hilt. Above them is "Guaranteed to cut/ wrought iron". Blade also embellished with a "US" engraving. Hilt of the sword is brass with a curved handle with single closed knuckle-bow, slightly disked guard with open scrollwork and single small down turned quillon. Handle is wood wrapped with wire and a very open weave textile. Brass pommel with scrollwork and initials "PT">
