Description
Small, metal money bank. Bank is silver colored and an oblique shaped cylinder. Top of bank has a key hole, and is stamped, "THE LITCHFIELD SAVINGS SOCIETY/ NO 97/ LITCHFIELD, CONN." Around the sides of the bank are slots to insert coins such as quarters, nickels, dimes, halves, and cents. Below each slot is a set of small holes with measurement numbers to record the amount of money inserted. The bottom of the bank has a hole in the center to insert bills. Stamped on bottom is, "ORIGINAL COMPARTMENT RECORDING SAGE PATENTS/ THE SAVINGS TELLER/ BILLS/ PATENTED APRIL 26-1904/ JULY 4-1905/ APRIL 25-1911/ PATENTED/ SEPT 9-1913/ SEPT 23-1916/ OTHER PATENTS PENDING/ THE AUTOMATIC RECORDING SAFE CO./ CHICAGO, U.S.A."
Comment
The Litchfield Savings Society was incorporated in May 1850. In 1952, the bank changed its name to The Litchfield Savings Bank, and changed it again in 1984 to Litchfield Bancorp.
