Description
Off white silk child's christeing dress; Alencon lace yolk with center front "en tablier" - apron section; long sleeves with Valenciennes lace cuff and ruffle; Valenciennes lace stand up collar; wide Alencon lace border; bow with tails at right side of yoke; center back opening with two mother-of-pearl buttons; back yoke of multiple tucks.
Provenance
This dress was worn by the donor's grandmother, mother in 1910, and worn by the donor in 1944 (Davida Foy Crabtree) at their respective baptisms. The donor and donor's mother were both baptized at the former Northfield Congregational Church in Northfield, CT.
Comment
This dress is short for a traditional christening dress; usual lengths are 36-45" and worn by a younger child. Hand-written attached tag at back hemline: "Baptism / 1910 / Davida Martha Blakeslee"
