Description
Irregularly shaped textile fragment with silk embroidery. Ivory silk satin brocade embroidered in shades of gold; design features scrolls in gold and red tied with brown ribbon, joined by floral garlands. Tack holes on curved sides, with evidence of hem at the top.
Provenance
Accession record indicates fragment is likely an upholstery remnant from a fauteuil à la reine style armchair. The origin is listed as Lyons, France, from the late 18th century. There is a note claiming the fragment belonged to Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Originally from the collection of A. G. Browne.
