Description
Dress of dark brown fabric with multi-colored floral print. Round neckline with short band collar. Front-center opening with silver metal buttons. Green velvet ribbon angled on front-center and back-center with silver metal sequins. Long sleeves with green velvet ribbon and silver metal sequins. Piping at waistline and around arms. Long, full skirt with train. Tan cotton lining in bodice. Two stays on each side of front-center, inserted in the darts (sewn folds). Dark brown cotton at hemline on interior. Dark brown soutache braid at hem. Handwritten cotton muslin label sewn in on collar interior, "Lucinda Perkins/Dress/1845/Loaned by Mrs. F. A. Clark."
Provenance
Belonged to Lucinda Perkins (1806-1897) of Litchfield. Census records for 1880 list her as living in the home of George Wheeler, her brother, alongside two individuals listed as daughters of either Wheeler or Perkins. Her marital status is listed as widowed.
