Description
Glass conical measure (a) for pharmaceutical use. Glass cylinder with flared rim and small spout, tapering towards bottom where it connects to a round glass base. Graduated measurements engraved on one side, 0-16 ounces, with every other line extending around the measure and the others extending halfway around. Engraved monogram on reverse side, "JEM" (Joseph E. Murphy). On side opposite spout are two stamps listing manufacturer and industry approvals. Stirring stick (b) of solid glass, rounded at each end.
Provenance
Removed along with other items from Murphy's Pharmacy on West Street, Litchfield, after the business closed in 2019.
Comment
Murphy's Pharmacy began as the Marley Pharmacy, opened by William Marley after the left the business partnership of Crutch & Marley located farther up West Street. The pharmacy was purchased by Joseph Murphy sometime between 1948 and 1951.
