Description
Badge and ribbon from the 1955 Red Cross National Convention. Rectangular plastic enclosure with paper insert; printed lettering, "THE AMERICAN NATIONAL/RED CROSS/30th NATIONAL CONVENTION/ATLANTIC CITY, N.J./JUNE 13-15, 1955"; typewritten lettering, "MARGERY BOYD/LITCHFIELD CONN." Pin and clasp attached to reverse. Stapled to badge is a white ribbon with pointed bottom. Printed lettering, in gold, "CHAPTER/CHAIRMAN/VOTING."
Provenance
From the estate of Margery Boyd (1906-1992), a longtime volunteer with the Litchfield Chapter, American Red Cross. Born in New York, Boyd moved to Litchfield with her family. She began with the Red Cross as a canvasser in 1927; founded the Chapter's Motor Service in 1942; and served as chapter chair on three occasions. She received the Connecticut Red Cross Volunteer Recognition Award and the Clara Barton Medal.
