Black bowler style hat. Curved brim; grosgrain ribbon and bow along crown. White lining with brown leather interior band. Cords for size adjustment. Metal ring at center-back inside hat. Stamped mark on lining, inside crown, "Mertz/HABIT MAKERS/EXTRA QUALITY/561 5th AVENUE/NEW YORK."
Provenance
Worn by Anne Lyon Haight (1890-1977) as part of riding ensemble. A photo in the LHS archives (2020-23-0) shows Anne in riding habit (2020-23-20,21) and hat (2020-23-22), holding crop (2020-23-24).
