Description
Hand-carved wood trade sign with painted decoration, Doyles' Ice Cream Parlour. Plywood sign cut in the shape of a decorative banner, painted white on both sides. In off-white and grey lettering at center, "ICE CREAM PARLOUR" in all caps with shadowed lettering. Above, "Doyles'" in gray lettering set between decorative horizontal bars, two on each side, in off-white. Floral and scroll motifs along right and left sides and at bottom, in off-white and tan. Iron bolt at top-right, attached to painted white iron hanger; missing hanger at left.
Provenance
Robert Doyle worked as a pharmacist at Crutch & MacDonald before buying the business in 1961 and continuing as manager, owner, and pharmacist until 1994. At some point during the pharmacy's operation, he opened an ice cream parlor in an adjoining storefront.
