Description
Wooden trade sign with painted decoration, made for the Crutch & MacDonald Medical Equipment store. Rectangular sign with inverted rounded corners, painted red with a dark red border. In dull yellow lettering at center, "Crutch & MacDonald/MEDICAL EQUIPMENT." Five screw holes around edges of sign, three at top and two at bottom. Two iron hanging loops affixed at top.
Provenance
Robert Doyle worked as a pharmacist at Crutch & MacDonald before buying the business in 1961 and continuing as manager, owner, and pharmacist until 1994. Doyle's father owned a pharmacy in Torrington, where his brother worked. When the Torrington pharmacy closed, Doyle opened Crutch & MacDonald Medical Equipment, also on West Street.
