Description
Pair of decorative sconces that formerly hung in the dining hall of Camp Columbia. Wrought iron backplate in the shape of the King's Crown, a symbol commonly associated with Columbia University. Arm extends from the middle of the crown, terminating in a metal basin and candelabra socket. Electrical wiring runs through the arm and out of the backplate.
Provenance
Camp Columbia ran from 1885-1983, providing a field school for Columbia's engineering and surveying students. Photographs of the mess hall in the 1930s, part of the Howard W. Vreeland collection in the Helga J. Ingraham Memorial Library, show the sconces on the wall.
