Description
Tinted lithograph featuring fashion plate taken from Peterson's Magazine. Five women in colorful dresses with bustles, full skirts, and extensive lace trim, flounces, ruffles, etc. Three women wear bonnets or hats; two hold fans, while one holds a hand mirror. The women are gathered in a large conservatory with glass ceiling and walls, numerous plants, a fountain and upholstered seating and other furniture. In printed text at bottom, "LES MODES PARISIENNES: PETERSON'S MAGAZINE/DECEMBER 1872."
Provenance
Peterson's Magazine ran from 1842-1898 as a competitor to Godey's Lady Book. It was later combined into Argoy (1882-1978).
