Description
Diminiutive chest, natural brown hide stretched over a rectangular pine box, leather nailed along edges of bottom, decorative brass tacking along all edges and forming an oval on the top, domed lid, newspaper lining dating to May 1814, announcing John Cotton Smith as as Governor and Thomas Day as his assistant.
Comment
Chest is lined with Connecticut newspapers dating from May, 1814. Chest was used for many years in the Law School after its removal to West Street.
