Description
Mother of pearl round game counter; engraved on face with coat of arms of Hancock family and engraved on backside with geometric pattern; Framed in black wood frame; both sides of counter visible in frame; small brass hook at top of frame; Frame also has a wooden arm on back to stand frame upright for display. Paper glued to back with donor's handwriting explaining the provenance of the piece.

Game counters were used in the 18th century to play the card game loo; Mary Perkins Quincy is an indirect descent of John Hancock. The game counter was owned by the Dorothy Quincy Hancock, John Hancock's wife. Mary Perkins Quincy is Dorothy Quincy Hancock's great grand neice.
