Description
A,B: Pair of epaulets. Top of epaulet gold silk. Two silver stars and a silver anchor decorate top. Small brass button at end. Large gold wire coils extending from base of epaulets. Underside lined with leather and blue silk. Brass bar and clasp for attaching epaulets to shoulders of uniform. C: Tin box, jappaned inside and out. Stamped on lid "Jacob Reed's/Sons/Philadelphia" Hinged lid with handle on top. Box unlined. Oval storage container in middle of box with hinged lid. Envelope inside box containing extra silver stars for epaulets
Comment
Worn by Rear Admiral Adolphus E. Watson (1878-1949). Admiral Watson graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1899. He was awarded the Naval Cross for his service as executive officer of the U.S.S. Florida during World War I, when Watson was still a captain.
