Object Name
Jacket
Object Number

Description
The jacket is made from a navy or royal blue silk and lined with cream colored silk. The front is decorated with a complex decorated applied tape. The tape has a base of silver metalic thread overlaid with blue and black embroidery. The tape is edged with rose- colored stitches for added decoration. This decoration extends from the front of the jacket and is continued on the cuffs. On the front and the cuffs the tape is bordered by black rope, or braid. The rope decoration is more extensive on the cuffs, where it extends up in three horizontal bands. At the seam, between the cuff and the sleeve, the rope is twisted into shapes and accented with small black buttons. Sewn into the inside of the cuffs are two layers of lace. The sleeves are puffed and have a very full appearance. The only decoration on the sleeves is three sewn horizontal pleats, each of which has two small black buttons at the center. The back is undecorated. The jacket would have been fastened by a combination of hook and eye closures and buttons. The buttons are all missing from what would have been the wearer's left side. The jacket appears to have been made with a combination of hand and machine sewing. Most likely worn with a skirt that had a small bustle. Label: "Victor Druilhe Paris 12 Rue de Port-Mahon B.
