Description
Green moire silk with floral embroidery of red, yellow, and green A: Petticoat or Underskirt - White starched gauze weave linen; lace ruffles of eyelet embroidery attached at hem; 2 ties of ruffles; gathered waist; passing on sides for panier; 2 loops of green silk brocade from dress attached to center front and center back of waistband; Skirt shows possible alterations - likely down in 1870s for a "centennial" costume B: Dress - green silk embroidered fabric; off the shoulder neckline with scalloped and gathered 2" band of material with circular puffs stuffed with lamb's wool; from waist down on either side of front are 2 j-bands approximately 6" wide; totally tucked, folded and pleated with zig-zagging pattern of puffs stuffed with lamb's wool; joining these two bands, horizontal smaller version of above; this band proceeds a gathered over-ruffle; dress fastens down the back with 12 hooks & eyes; half sleeves with 2 gathered scalloped, over lapping cuffs hanging on an angle; under these, a gathered scalloped lace cuff; bodice lined in cream glazed linen with 6 stays; sleeves lined in glazed cotton; one side pocket has been stitched closed; 8" of white satin lining along back at bottom of skirt was a later addition C-G: 2 partial pieces of skirt, miscellaneous fabric scraps
