Description
Carved wooden newel post. Round, bulbous top with three incised lines around circumference of top. Short neck with round base. Flat on bottom. Lip around top of base. Believe post was originally natural wood, then painted green, then white and finally yellow. Paint chipped and flaking.

This newel post is from the front hall stairwell of the Painter House of West Haven which was moved to North St. by Mr. C.A. Hathaway for his home. Edward Litwin, the donor, was the contractor for the project.
