Description
Oil on canvas of young man painted full face. He is seated in willow side chair with his right arm raised and his head resting on his closed hand. His elbow is leaning on something not pictured in the canvas. He holds a hat and coat in his left hand. He has blond/brown hair parted on the left, a high forehead, blue eyes and glasses. He wears a dark suit and vest, white shirt and brown striped tie. Background is somewhat abstract although it looks as though there are canvases stacked in the background. Label on stretcher "Louvre Frame Co/16 West 22nd St. N.Y. City" Frame is heavy molded and painted in blotches of greys and whites.
Comment
The artist and sitter were classmates at Yale and the painting was done while they were undergraduates.
