Portrait of a young man, seated facing left with dark suit and vest, white shirt and red tie. Left arm rests on chair arm and holds book with title "History" He has dark hair, a small goatee, and blue eyes.
Comment
Lucius L. Culver married Harriet Kinney, Ammi Phillips' second cousin and the daughter of Nisus Kinney (1970-01-3), who was Phillips' first cousin. The Culvers were married at Phillips' home in North East, New York. Lucius dies in 1862, around the time the portrait was painted. It may have been copied from a daguerreotype.
