Description
Watercolor on ivory portrait miniature of Elizabeth Stone Prince, later Elizabeth Prince Child. 3/4 length pose, full face. Depicts woman with brown hair parted in middle. Has blue eyes, round face, pink complexion. Wears a black silk dress with pleated bodice, white collar fastened with oval brooch, an amethyst in gold setting. Purple scarf draped off shoulders. Case is tooled leather with oval frame, gilt bevel and purple velvet lining.
Comment
Elizabeth Stone Prince attended the Litchfield Female Academy from 1830 to 1832. She later married Nathaniel Child of Rochester, NY. After his death, Elizabeth returned to Litchfield and lived on North Street with her relative and fellow LFA attendee, Lucy Sheldon Beach.
