Description
3 pieces of material said to have been taken from a dress worn at a reception given by George Washington for Gen. Layfayette in Baltimore, Maryland. One remnant is a large piece is yellow silk brocade with floral design. A second remnant is a small piece of galloon with metallic threads on black warp. The third remnant is a piece of fine silk net edged with a narrow lace border with dots sewn into net.
Provenance
According to tradition the textile fragments were given to Mrs. J.H. Marcy, who gifted them to Mrs. John L. Buel (Elizabeth Barney Buel). Mrs. Buel presented them to the Mary Floyd Tallmadge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on the 250th anniversary of Litchfield's founding in 1969.
