Description
Brown glass bottle with liquid "Malmsey Wine" wrapped in 6 documents recounting history.
Provenance
Donors purchased the bottle and documentation at auction which included objects from the Coe estate. The Coe sisters had a house in Litchfield, and the family bequeathed other items to the Historical Society.
Comment
From the cellar of Gen. Woodruff of Morris. Found by Lucretia Deming in 1879 in closet of store owned by her father, and presented to George C. Woodruff by her on 7/15/1879. First opened 9/28/1879 on occasion of G.W. and H.S. Woodruff's Golden wedding anniversary. Remainder re-corked. Opened on 6/13/1910 for Golden Anniversary of G.M. and E.P.
