Description
2 bands of embroidery, alphabet, one band of embroidery, alphabet, embroidery, alphabet, embroidery, alphabet done in button holing, 3 bands of embroidery: "HANNAH BECK WAS BORN X SEPTEMBER THE 27/1739. AGED TWELVE YEARS. HANNAH BECK IS/MY NAME AND ENGLISH IS MY NATION NEWBURY/IS MY DWELLING PLACE AND CHRIST IS MY/SALVATION. WHEN I AM DEAD AND LAID IN/GRAVE AND ALL MY BONES ARE ROTTEN/WHEN THIS YOU SEE REMEMBER ME THAT I/MAY NEVER BE FORGOTTEN". Under the verse is a wide space partly embroidered. It is a scene of the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve on each side of the apple tree with the serpent winding up the trunk. Animals - deer, snails, birds, butterflies and foxes surround the tree. The figures, animals and tree are drawn (or printed?) in sepia ink.
