Description
Tall stand alone bird house. Base of two pieces of wood crossed over each other. Cylindrical copper pipe elevates house. Bird house made of wooden box with each side extending 4" past square frame. Hole cut into one side. Door underneath box with brass hinges and clasp. Square copper roofs slightly elevated on copper piping above top of box.

Bird house designed by Herbert Beckhard (1926-2003) for the Litchfield Historical Society fundraiser, "For the Birds." Beckhard was a frequent collaborator of Marcel Breuer from the 1950s to 1970s, and later went on to found the New York architectural firm Beckhard Richlan Szerbaty & Associates. Breuer and Beckhard were the architects for the Stillman II house in Litchfield.
