Description
English fusee, verge escapement. The outer silver case is plain and has no marks. The face has minutes in Arabic numbers and hours in Roman numerals. The hands are steel. The center has a carved floral design backed with blue. Inside of the inner silver case is a mark but so worn it cannot be read. The chain is made of cut steel ellipses between round links. The watch key is brass on a swivel with a handle of three interlocking rings. This watch belonged to Reverend Stephen White of Windham, Conn. He carried this watch while attending Yale College, graduating in 1736. There are 5 watch papers. 1. Small piece of blank paper. 2. Piece of paper cut from some document On one side written in script is "Trumpet on --- and "Dyer Wind(ham)" 3. Watch paper with engraved design in red "Watches/Repaired by/Simeon Jocelin/Clock Maker/in/State Street/New Haven." On back in script "Dyer White Jan 15 1808/B $0.50." 4. Watch paper printed in blue ink "Charles Hequembourg/Clock & Watch/Maker/Church Street/New Haven". In script on back "Dyer White Esq 9...3..1811." 5. Same as above only printed in red ink. In script on back 11**12**9/D. White Esq." Dyer White was a son of Rev. Stephen White who had married a Dyer of Windham.
