Comment
Mabel Ruggles Canfield (1760) was born one of thirteen children, the daughter of Captain Lazarus Ruggles, a prosperous farmer, owner of a grist mill and ironworks. Mabel married Judson Canfield on March 5, 1786. In 1815, after losing his house in Sharon because of poor finances, the couple and two daughters moved to Canfield, Ohio which had been named after Judson in 1798 when he bought the land. She did not like it in Canfield and so she moved back east, he followed shortly thereafter. See Ralph Earl portrait of her as a younger woman, 1917-04-4.
