Thin linen gauzy shawl; 2 1/2" bobbin lace ruffle around all edges; white work embroidery in each corner and along edges - stylized floral design; most intricate at corners with areas of drawn work

Shawl belonged to Maria P. (nee Bedlow) Beecher, wife of William Augustus Beecher who was a 1st counsin of Henry Ward Beecher. These are the donor's parents. They lived in Goshen.
