Description
Wooden splint - meant to be worn on back of leg. 2 sections - one above knee and one below. Brass buckles along edge of splint where straps could be woven in. Brass arm connecting two wooden sections. Has a screw clamp and can be adjusted by sliding bar in either direction. Would allow doctor to keep leg in either 90 angle, straight or some degree in between. Two brass pieces on bottom wood piece with three holes in each piece. Presumably would be secured to persons shoe with straps.

Dr. Benjamin Welch of Lakeville, CT began manufacturing splints soon after 1850. All splints manufactured were by his own design and patent.
