Dress

Chocolate brown silk dress. Large gigot sleeves; the sleeves start low on the shoulder and get increasingly wider until they start to narrow below the wearer's elbow; the cuffs are tight at the wrist and are fastened with two hook & eye closures; to add to the fullness of the sleeves, they are gathered and pleated up at the shoulders; also lined with linen. The bodice is rather open and falls in a deep V shape; bodice gathered at waist and at the shoulders. Piece of cloth that extends from the neck down the back 7"; resembles a rounded collar. At the waist there are two hook and eye closures that fasten the skirt portion of the dress in place. Additional silk band, sewn into the back of the waist, wraps around to the front and fastens to resemble a belt. The skirt is full and is gathered at the waist in the back. The hem is even in the front and back. The skirt is unlined except for a piece of sized cotton at the hem. The cotton lining is also in the bodice at the waist, the neck, shoulders, and up either side. The middle portion of the back is unlined. All of the sewing appears to be hand done.
