Description
Round base with chased scallop shell band, stepped to short round foot, with scallop shell slanted collar; egg shaped body, with neck band of floral and leaf engraving, tapering to open spout top with scallop shell rim. S-shaped handle, with oval thumb piece, on top and heart shaped S curved terminal. Top with loop thumb piece of scallop shells at hinge, domed at center with cast squirrel on bed of acorns as finial. Decorated on front with Wolcott crest, and inscribed in script on side "Oliver Wolcott to Laura Wolcott Gibbs 1810" Oliver Wolcott Jr. gave this to his daughter Laura on the occasion of her marriage on Dec. 27, 1810 to Col. George Gibbs of Newport R.I. And afterwards Sunswick, NY. Her dates are 1794-1870. Hallmark on bottom in script "Wthomson" in plain rectangle
