Description
Metal pen nib with "JOSEPH GILLOTT'S EXTRA FINE 305" impressed on the body of the nib. Joseph Gillott (October 11, 1799 - January 5, 1873) was an English pen maker and patron of the arts. Born in the town of Sheffield, he becan his working career has a cutler in that place. In 1821 he moved to Birmingham, where he found employment in "the steel toy trade", which was the technical name for the manufacture of steel buckles, chains and light ornamental steel-work. Around 183 he turned his attention to the manufacture of steel pens by machinery and established his own company, Joseph Gillott's in Birmingham. As of 2011 the company was still producing nibs.
