Provenance
This pin was donated to the Litchfield Historical Society in 1932 by Anna Lansing as part of her American Red Cross canteen worker uniform that she wore during her service with the Red Cross during WWI.
Comment
This bar pin, known as the WWI Victory Medal, is a decoration of the United States military that was first created in 1919. The medal was awarded to any member of the U.S. military who had served in the armed forces for any military service between April 6, 1917 and November 11, 1918; for service in European Russia between November 12, 1918 and August 5, 1919; and for service with the American Expeditionary Force Siberia between November 23, 1918 and April 1, 1920. The pins were awarded retroactively by mail after the close of the war. The were first awarded in 1921.
