Description
Pale creamware plate with molded, cyma curved rim, shallow bowl, and a foot on the bottom. The rim is painted with two sprays of red chrysanthemums and green leaves alternating with a curvy line between each. The bottom has a bust of a man with a queue wearing a red jacket yellow ribbon over his shoulder with a badge pinned to it. Under bust are the letters "P.W.D.V." The portrait is surrounded by a circle of red entwined with a vine and sparse red flowers with green leaves. This type of plate was made in England, probably at the Leeds Pottery, then sent over to Holland to be decorated and enameled. The portrait is probably William V of Orange on the occasion of his return from exile in 1787.
