Description
Papier mache world globe - round; constructed in curved sections pieced together along seam lines; Hole at top and bottom with brass rod pushed through. Arched brass ring around globe allowing it to be spun and turned. Wooden stand or bass. Four legs with bulbous feet; diagonal stretchers underneath connecting to ankles of legs. Top of base round and flag with navigational markings.
Comment
Globe used at the Litchfield Female Academy. Subsequently owned and used by the boarding school of John Catlin, Northfield, which donor attended in winter of 1845-1846.
