Description
Reddish brown leather bag. Fold over flap closure that would have been secured at bottom with metal buckel and leather strap. Interior of bag has large compartment and then pocket on front with separate flap closure. Two metal rings on top of each side of bag where strap could be passed through.

When pouch donated a letter located inside which was titled "Message to the Confederates Norfolk, VA" The letter read "In answer to your terms of surrender. We will accept nothing but immediate surrender and that the southern states brought into this union" Signed "Capt. Mackenzie" In collection of LHS archives (8015 K1322)
