Description
Textile fragment of four pieces of embroidered linen, sewn together in the center with drawn work and at the outer stitches with linen thread. Similar design on all four pieces of leaf forms, alternating in color and direction as you move from one piece to the next. Leaves in red and green, blue and orange, blue and off-white, and orange and blue; some leafs larger than others. The four pieces all appear to have been border designs, since they are edged in chain stitch and have remnants of fringe attached. Possibly used as a table cover.
Provenance
Accession record indicates the fragment is Eastern Mediterranean in origin, possibly from Rhodes.
